HERD SIRES
Purebred, Performance Tested Bulls
Jack Cooper started his herd of Line 1 Herefords in 1947. Unimpressed by the cattle generally winning in the shows during the 40’s and 50’s, Jack set his mind to producing cattle suited for the commercial bull market. He understood that range producers were looking for bulls with sound feet and legs which would enable them to travel well, and for animals with the inherent ability to put on pounds more efficiently than other cattle at the time. Jack also believed that by maintaining a strong line breeding program and paying close attention to performance records he could improve the uniformity and predictability of his herd. As a result, our program is the outcome of over 70 years of performance testing and selecting for traits that keep cattle producers profitable. We continue to place great emphasis on structural soundness and growth, in addition to key maternal traits. Our herd sires are kept for a maximum of three years with the assumption that a herd bull should produce sons better than he is within that time span less the herd is not progressing genetically.
